The mabul was a form of re-creation.

The Earth itself was steeped in the corruption of hearts and misalignment of souls.

With the Flood, the world returned to its original state of ורוח אלקים מרחפת על פני המים.

In this case, the spirit of G-d rested with the small seed that would birth the new beginning of humanity – the floating Ark holding eight living survivors.

I can’t help but draw a connection to the womb – often compared to the Earth – which holds different forms  of “water” at different times.

Menstrual blood releases physical toxins in our body – and is also an auspicious embodiment of emotional and spiritual release and cleansing.

Cervical fluid carries and sustains the seeds of new life.

Amniotic fluid conjures up this exact image of the spirit of G-d (within a new soul) floating in the water – or the Ark holding new beginnings of life within the Flood.

The mabul lasted 40 days and nights. A kosher mikvah measures 40 se'ah. Another renewal within the great feminine waters of rebirth.

The enormity of the Flood holds both chaos and comfort.

Destruction and a doorway to a new life.

The promise that the Flood will never happen again is the ultimate compassion.

We won’t always be perfectly aligned. We will misstep along the path to inner wholeness. Take that as a guarantee.

But it doesn't have to spell the end. Instead, we receive little signs – like a rainbow, our monthly blood, perhaps a louder signal like cramping, PMS, or other symptoms alerting us to something deeper within.

A nudge back to our center, back to our truth, to reconnect. To remember why we’re here.
