Was it Elul or PMS?
Sep 21, 2025
If this entire month has felt heavy… tender… almost premenstrual - you’re not imagining it.
The luteal phase of our cycles is the time of descent, of letting go, of being with the uncertainty of “almost ending.” It’s when everything that isn’t working rises to the surface: the irritations, the misalignments, the pain points.
That’s exactly what Elul does, too. It brings us face to face with the places in our lives that don’t fit.
Because that's the real definition of "sin". Misalignment. The ache of disconnection.
The process of teshuvah begins with feeling the discomfort of what's asking to be changed.
There’s a dying that happens before we are reborn.
And just like our bodies, the Jewish calendar holds this wisdom too.
Rosh Hashanah is the only holiday that falls on Rosh Chodesh - the new moon. Not just any new moon, but the first day of the first month of creation. The birth of the year itself.
It gathers together every cycle - the seasons, the year, the months, the days - and says: here, in this moment, everything is made new again.
This year, Rosh Hashanah begins on the heels of a New Moon solar eclipse. Eclipse energy heightens the sense of release and renewal. It’s an opening into a truer alignment, a deeper rebirth.
If you’ve been feeling the luteal edge of Elul, this is why. It’s the brink of renewal. The shedding within the becoming.
And tomorrow night, as we crown Hashem anew, we too are invited into that eclipse-darkened womb of creation - into a new self, a new year, a new intimacy with our Creator.
Our cycles mirror these same movements - Elul as luteal, Rosh Hashanah as the menstrual renewal, Yom Kippur is the Mikvah night of coming back to Oneness with G-d, the fullness and joy of Sukkos is the peak of ovulation, while Shemini Atzeres helps us wind down and integrate.
The Jewish year is alive in us, pulsing through our blood.
When we come to know this, it’s no longer just lip service. It becomes embodied truth.
We feel it. We live it. We touch creation itself moving within us.
✨ That is what Embodied is here to guide you into: learning how to connect with your cycle in a whole new way - tracking your fertility patterns to prevent or achieve pregnancy, understanding your hormones with clarity, and stepping into the deeper process it opens for you. A way of living aligned with the cycles within you and the cycles all around you.
